MEET: Mahk Rahimi
Interior Designer

Formerly at Kendall Wilkinson Design

Mahk works closely with clients to find out what they want.
She finds inspiration in books, magazines, and other print
resources to inform clients about the many choices they have.
have in decorating rooms in their homes. Typical questions
include: What colors do you like?
What style do you want in
the room? How will the room be used?
Presenting a Project: Design a Bedroom

Mahk introduced the design project to the girls. Working
with a folded room, girls were given a variety of materials to
use in creating their own special bedroom.

Mahk helps with cutting out a window opening. Girls had a
wonderful time designing special features for their rooms.
Creativity flowed as curtains were hung, rugs covered floors,
and beds were decorated with blankets and pillows.

Meet: Leslie Duskin
Software Engineering, The Real Real
E-Commerce Story Board
Leslie introduced the girls to the world of e-commerce. She
enjoys working with her team of people. They strive to work
efficiently as well as being cost-effective. Orders typically
take 2 days to turn around from getting picked, packed, and
shipped to customers. Orders being shipped outside the
country take 5 days for delivery. Leslie uses math everyday
including: adding, dividing, percentages, multiplying, and
 checking the inventory.
What Happens Once You Place an Order?
After an order is received, it goes to the picker who finds it.
The item is brought over to the packers to get ready for
  shipping out to the customer.
It takes a team to fill an order!

MEET: Anne Schafer
Associate Professor of Medicine, UC San Francisco
Staff Physician, San Francisco VA Medical Center

Anne finds her work exciting. She enjoys getting to know her
patients over time, sometimes over many years. She feels
rewarded by the trust patients put in her. They know she will
do her best to help improve their health. Anne has a full
schedule taking on many roles: teaching medical students,
working in the clinic, designing research studies to find
answers to questions, and finding volunteers for studies.
                                     In the Doctor's Office

After talking with her patient, Dr. Schafer checks the patient's
heart. Then she uses the laptop to review the patient's past
history. The patient fell and broke her hip last fall. Dr. Schafer
reviews the xray. She tells the patient about a study that will
test a new medicine to treat and strengthen bones.

In the Research Lab
In her role as a researcher, Anne checks in with colleagues
about findings from studies they are conducting. She states,
"What we learn from this study will help us take better care
of people with fragile bones in the future."

MEET: LaDreena Walton
Investigator, Dept. of Police Accountability

LaDreena shared about her responsibilities as an investigator
in the Department of Police Accountability. She wants to find
out what happened in cases where a police officer has been
reported in a situation. Officers have rules that they need to
follow and they are responsible for their actions. LaDreena's
role is to investigate, meet with witnesses, and
look at
  evidence
in order to make a decision. Final recommendations
  may be
sustained or not sustained based on her investigation.

The Investigation Process

LaDreena showed the process of an investigation through a
series of drawings. The first picture sets the scene with an
officer
stepping on a kid's balloon. Then each drawing showed
the
steps in the investigation from talking with the officer to
the witnesses.
